Hogg Crest

Open - Ends (collaboration between Ram Samocha and Kevin Hogg

Ram Samocha was born in Israel. His work draws from the locale and the location of its creation.

His art does not portray descriptions of existing situations, nor does it handle or examine political realities, but rather deals with these issues through observing the singular, private and intimate.

Within his work he found drawing a significant and independent artistic form; in the last seven years in particular, it became

a privileged way of expression for him, and increasingly his interest in painting, sculpture, design, writing and motion is manifested within it.

His work was featured in various solo and group exhibitions including most recently “Scarring” at the Bookshelf in Guelph, “First Impression” at Loose Canon Gallery in Hamilton, “Juried Art Exhibition”, at Glenhyrst Art Gallery of Brant, and “Exposure” at the Artery Gallery in Kitchener.

Currently Ram Samocha is doing his M.F.A in Drawing at the University of Waterloo.

Being Creative

Back to when I was young...I had a great mother who really thought I was good at art and supported me 100%. In my past I have created a lot of art. I have an honours degree in Fine Art studio...drawing and painting comes natural...but as life has gone on...and I needed a career...I became more involved with video production techniques and technology...it's been 15 years since I have painted. There are other reasons for stopping painting..but `such is life' to quote Nelly's last words. .I want to get back to painting and drawing very soon...I miss it very much...the feeling that is inside me now is driving me to be creative that way again...and that is important for me in my motivation to paint.

Music...was intimidating and a struggle from the beginning...while I was in school studying art...I played in many bands (the bass)...I played jazz, rock, big band (12piece)...all that and more..too much more...working for other people in music is not as important as finding your own vision...and as time moved on I really desired to be more creative in music and I developed a desire to make a personal contribution...I took on the challenge to teach myself guitar...keyboards...and to write my own poetry...and to learn how to sing...it's been a journey these past few years...in me finding my (own) voice...I am still...exploring...searching...experimenting and discovering...it's a journey of trying really hard...and gaining more confidence as I keep going. At first it was all really terrible...but now...and since my last group of songs I do feel I have something to offer... and my own unique music style will continue to grow and my own true voice will (by way of hard work and perseverance) will shine through.

Setting goals is very important. By the end of this year I will complete my 4th volume of songs...and in 2009 I will complete my 5th and at least start my 6th album. I have completed rough recordings in my computer for the next 3 albums.

Music Is In Your Face

I took my son to see Marilyn Manson, Slayer, and Bleeding Through. I took the photo of the stage and crowd shot for Manson, and my son took an amazing shot of the lead singer for Bleeding Through as he worked the audience and stood right next to us while he was singing. Bleeding Through was the better of all three bands in my opinion. They REALLY worked harder that the other bands.
